Overview

The northwest Balkan region is where countries Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia&Hercegovina and Montenegro are situated. Our tour starts in Slovenia and  features its lovely capital Ljubljana, visit of Postojna Caves and Predjama castle on the day two of the tour.

Croatia has a spectacular 1100 mile long coastline on the Adriatic Sea with 1246 islands. We will begin our explorations in the north in Zadar where we spent one night. Next morning continue south and visit Split where the Roman emperor Diocletian constructed an enormous 30,000 square meter palace in the early 4th century. Our local guide will take us through these remarkably well preserved ruins.

Later spent 3 nights at Dubrovnik, a one-time Mediterranean sea power called the Pearl of the Adriatic, your next favorite city on the coast. One of the days enjoy a full day trip to the neigbouring country of very proud people Montenegro.

Bosnia and its capital Sarajevo is next on the tour. We’ll spend one day in fascinating Sarajevo and meet its the wonderful people. Later drive back to Croatia to Plitvice National Park. Our walk along the trails of the splendid Plitvice Lakes National Park will display the wonder of a thousand waterfalls.

Finish your tour with a visit of Croatian vibrant capital Zagreb and stunning Lake Bled- The Pearl of the Alps in Slovenia.

Itinerary

Day 1 AIRPORT – LJUBLJANA

Choose your arrival airport. Flexibility is one of our motos, so we´ll be glad to pick you up from Ljubljana, Trieste, Zagreb or Venice airport and bring you to your Ljubljana Hotel Cubo 4* or similar  for one night. Settle in, enjoy and relax in your centrally located hotel and meet your guide for a walking tour of Ljubljana with aperitif and welcome dinner.(D)

Day 2    LJUBLJANA-PREDJAMA CASTLE-POSTOJNA CAVES-ZADAR

visit sloveniaDeparture Ljubljana in the morning and head towards Postojna Caves. Today you are going to realize how diverse the Slovenian sceneries are. Half an hour from Ljubljana you´ll be in the heart of Karst area to admire its pearl, the famous Postojna Cave with Predjama Castle. Tour then takes us into Croatia, traveling along the coast to Zadar, a historic fortified port town. Your guide will take you for a short stroll through the town to see its highlights including the curious sculpture. Your lodging is centrally located  Hotel Bastion 4* or similar for one night. Free evening in Zadar.(B)

Day 3 ZADAR-SPLIT-DUBROVNIK 

visit croatiaThe scenery of the Croatian coastline is famous worldwide. Today, you are going to discover why. The winding road follows the coastline, offering views over the small inlets and islands, the hills beside add to dramatically beautiful and wild scenery. Our first stop today is Split. Nowadays Split is the largest city on the Dalmatian coast and its administrative, cultural, economic capital. Diocletian, the ancient Roman Emperor had his palace built here in 305a.D.; no wonder, he was born in the neighborhood, in the town of Salona, nowadays Solin. Its remains are now representing half of the city historic center. You´ll be dedicating this morning to discover all of the beauties of Split in the company of the local guide.

You´re going further south for a special experience in the afternoon. On the way to Dubrovnik, we are going to stop at Ston, a historic town that occupies a strategic position on the Pelješac peninsula, famous for its oyster farms and excelent fish restautrants where you dine. Then for a 45 minutes drive to Dubrovnik for the next three nights in Grand Villa Argentina 5* or similar.(B,D)

Day 4 DUBROVNIK           

visit croatiaYou´ll join a local guide for a walking tour of this amazing town, this morning. It will include Stradun and the famous majestic defensive walls. The afternoon and evening is yours, to explore Dubrovnik on your own. (B)

Day 5 DUBROVNIK-KOTOR BAY-LOVČEN-DUBROVNIK

visit montenegroLeave Dubrovnik this morning to explore Montenegro.

A Photo stop first in Perast-Our lady of The Rock island and Kotor to explore and enjoy this unique coastal town. It belonged to Venetian Republic for over 300 years, many fortifications and other buildings are still there; the main reason Kotor is on UNESCO´s World Heritage sight list.

Montenegro was an independent principality and then a kingdom between 1696 and 1918. The village where its ruling dynasty is coming from, and Mount Lovčen, where the mausoleum of Petar Petrovič Njegoš, the most famous Montenegro prince and poet is buried, is our next adventure. Steep country road will take us to the mountains just above the town to visit these two places so important for the Montenegro´s history and culture.

We´ll return to Dubrovnik in the afternoon. Evening free. (B)

Day 6 DUBROVNIK- MOSTAR-SARAJEVO       

visit bosniaWe travel north today, our final destination being Sarajevo in Bosnia&Hercegovina.

Our first stop today is Mostar. Its beautiful bridge over the Neretva river, the fine example of Islamic architecture in the Balkans, built in 16th century was destroyed during the war in the nineties. Rebuild in 2004 now looks exactly as when made; a lot of original stones have been used to rebuild it. The Mostar Old Bridge is now on the UNESCO´s World Heritage Sight list.

After spare time for lunch in Mostar we´ll continue north through the magnificent Neretva valley scenery to reach Sarajevo for one night, Your Hotel president 4* or similar is conveniently located next to Sarajevo’s Old Bazzar Baščaršija.

Later in the afternoon an in depth tour of Sarajevo with the our local expert guide will follow. Beside all of the main atractions in town, that will include Catolic Cathedral, Sinagoge, Orthodox church and the Mosque, located practicaly on the same block you can enjoy some fabolous shoping in Old Bazzar. Tonight you’ll dine in a typical Bosnian restuarant to try some local cuisine.(B,D)

 Day 7 SARAJEVO-PLITVICE  LAKES  

visit croatiaPut your hiking shoes on this morning. You´ll travel east to see and explore the Croatian UNESCO site, Plitvice lakes. It is an outstanding natural phenomenon, a series of lakes on the river Korana. You´ll visit Upper and Lower lakes, walking through forests and parks. Your camera is going to be very busy.

Tonight’s lodging Hotel Degenija 4* or similar for one night is located in a close vicinity of the park. Tonight’s dinner will be served in hotel. (B,D)

Day 8 PLITVICE LAKES-ZAGREB-BLED  

visit sloveniaDeparture Plitvice Lakes this morning and head toward’s Croatian vibrant capital Zagreb. The walking tour takes you to Zagreb Gradac, the upper town, and castle area, nowadays the political center of the city and the whole of the country. Continue to Dolac, a lesser town with a lively market area. Browse the stalls for some typical products, your guide/driver will have suggestions for your lunch. After Zagreb you’ll be transfered to iconic Lake Bled in Slovenia, where you’ll spend one night on waterfront GH Toplice 5* or similar. Farrawell dinner in a local restaurant. (B,D)

Day 9  BLED- AIRPORT                                                                                

Sad but true. Your holidays are over. After breakfast we´ll take you to your desired departure airport.(B)
