Our 11-day Slovenia tour is a comprehensive exploration of the country’s rich diversity. From the Julian Alps to the Adriatic coast, rolling hills of Brda to the eastern plains of Prekmurje, you’ll experience constant change in scenery, architecture, dialects, cuisine, and wine just a short drive away. Slovenia, though one of the world’s youngest countries, boasts a history linked to ancient Rome, the Austrian Empire, Venetian Republic, the interwar Kingdom of Yugoslavia, and post-WW2 socialist Yugoslavia.
This tour offers you a “big picture” perspective on European history. You’ll visit must-see places like Ljubljana, Postojna Caves, and Lake Bled while also discovering hidden gems like Bohinj, Novo Mesto, and Ptuj. Natural wonders and urban areas alternate, providing an all-encompassing journey through Slovenia. Don’t wait, visit now and explore this remarkable destination before the crowds arrive.
AIRPORT – BRDA WINE REGION
Select your arrival airport with ease. We're all about flexibility. We're more than happy to arrange your pickup from Ljubljana, Trieste, Zagreb, or Venice airport and transport you to Hotel San Martin or a similar accommodation in the heart of the Brda Wine region, Šmartno, for a two-night stay. After you've settled in, you'll join your guide for an orientation walk, followed by an aperitif and a warm welcome dinner. (D)BRDA – ŠTANJEL – LIPICA – PIRAN – BRDA
Our Slovenia tour kicks off by heading south. We'll traverse the Karst region, making our first stop in the charming village of Štanjel, renowned for its Ferrari gardens. From there, we'll head to Lipica, the home stud farm of the famous Lipizzan horses, where you'll have the chance to witness a Lipizzan Horse performance show. Afterward, there's time for lunch.
We'll then continue our journey towards the Adriatic coast, reaching the picturesque town of Piran, known as the pearl of the coast. As you explore the town, you'll discover its rich history, including its five-century-long association with the Venetian Serenissima Republic.
In the late afternoon, we'll return to Šmartno. The evening is yours to savor the outstanding local cuisine and wines, deepening your appreciation of the region. (B)
ŠMARTNO – KOBARID – VRŠIČ PASS – BLED
We'll leave the rolling hills of Brda and descend into the picturesque Soča river valley, following the stunning turquoise waters to Kobarid. Here, we'll visit the WWI Museum, renowned as one of the best of its kind. You'll gain insight into the significant WWI frontline between Austria and Italy, a setting famously depicted in Hemingway's "Farewell to Arms."
Afterward, we'll embark on a scenic journey across the highest Slovenian mountain pass, offering magical views of the Julian Alps. We'll end the day in the iconic town of Bled, where we'll spend two nights at the waterfront GH Toplice or a similar accommodation. For dinner tonight, we'll head to the nearby medieval town of Radovljica, celebrated for its gingerbread and honey craftsmanship. (B, D)
BLED – LAKE BOHINJ – BLED
This morning on our Slovenia tour, we'll dive into the beauty of Bled and its pristine lake. Hop on a pletna boat for a scenic ride to the lake's island, visit the former Yugoslav president Tito's villa, and savor the world-famous Bled cream cake.
Afterward, we'll head to Lake Bohinj, a hidden gem nestled in the Julian Alps. We'll return to Bled, and the rest of the day is yours to unwind on the beach or go for a hike around the lake. Enjoy your free time at your leisure. (B)
BLED – KROPA – ŠKOFJA LOKA – PREKMURJE
This morning, we'll head to the Gorenjska region. Our first stop is in Kropa, known for its traditional handcraft and iron forging. We'll make a brief visit to its Museum to learn more about this heritage.
Next, we'll arrive in Škofja Loka, a town that has beautifully preserved its medieval appearance. You'll have the chance to admire Nace's house, a traditional 15th-century Slovenian home, as a local guide shares captivating stories from the past. After some time for lunch, we'll traverse the country to reach its easternmost region, Prekmurje. In Prekmurje, you'll be welcomed as guests at Green farm Firbas or a similar accommodation for two nights. Your hosts will introduce you to the delights of Prekmurje cuisine with a traditional dinner in the evening. (B, D)
PREKMURJE
Spend the day exploring this lesser-known gem of Slovenia. Start your tour by visiting a Pumpkin seed oil farm, where you can taste this exquisite delicacy. Enjoy a ride across the river Mura and take a guided tour of a floating mill.
Prekmurje is one of Slovenia's many wine regions, so a visit to a winery is a must. When you return to the Green farm, you'll have time to unwind with a glass of wine. You can also go on a bicycle ride through the scenic vineyards and fields. It's a day of delicious experiences and relaxation in this charming corner of Slovenia. (B, D)
PREKMURJE – MARIBOR – PTUJ – LJUBLJANA
This morning, we'll head west to Maribor, once a major industrial hub in ex-Yugoslavia and now a friendly and scenic town. As you stroll through the Old Town, you'll come across a grapevine that's over 400 years old, recognized as the oldest in the world.
Following the Drava river, we'll reach Ptuj, the oldest town in Slovenia with roots dating back to Ancient Roman times, which retains its charming medieval appearance. Its impressive castle overlooking the Drava river provides a picturesque backdrop for beautiful photos. Your guide will lead an orientation walk and offer suggestions for your lunch.
Later, we'll continue southwest to Ljubljana, where you'll spend the next four nights. Your centrally located Hotel Cubo or a similar accommodation will place you in the heart of lively Ljubljana's vibrant atmosphere. (B)
LJUBLJANA
This morning, our focus is on Ljubljana, the capital city. A local guide will lead you on a captivating tour of the Old Town, including a funicular ride to the castle and a look at many of architect Plecnik's masterpieces.
Ljubljana is a welcoming and tourist-friendly city. We're confident you'll relish your afternoon exploring the town, whether you choose to stroll its streets or visit some of its museums and art galleries. It's a day packed with cultural and architectural delights. (B)
LJUBLJANA – OTOČEC CASTLE – NOVO MESTO – LJUBLJANA
Today, you'll explore another lesser-known region of Slovenia, Dolenjska. Our journey takes us south, with a coffee stop at Otocec Castle, frequently used for state protocol affairs by Slovenian officials.
We'll then embark on a scenic ride through the Dolenjska region, eventually reaching Novo Mesto, a town nestled on the bend of the Krka river. Here, you'll enjoy a walk through the town, make a brief visit to its museum, and savor lunch at a typical restaurant, completing this half-day excursion to the south.
In the afternoon, we'll return to Ljubljana. It's a day filled with unique experiences and picturesque landscapes. (B, L)
LJUBLJANA – POSTOJNA CAVES – PREDJAMA CASTLE – LJUBLJANA
In the morning, get ready for a half-day excursion to the enigmatic underground realm of the Postojna Cave. With a local guide, you'll explore the cave on foot and hop on a train for part of the journey. Later, we'll visit the renowned Predjama Castle, acclaimed by National Geographic as one of the world's most picturesque castles.
We'll return to Ljubljana in time for you to immerse yourself in the local culture in the vibrant area along the Ljubljanica river. Enjoy a farewell dinner as you bid "Na svidenje" to the country you've come to know so well. It's the perfect conclusion to your Slovenian adventure. (B, D)

Plitivice Lakes UNESCO site tour - July 2017
“Spectacular scenery with 5-star personalized and attentive service!” My multigenerational family, including two toddler daughters and 70 year-old mother, loved our experience with Slovenia 4 Seasons! We serendipitously found their brochure in the lobby of our hotel, the Starhotels Savoia Excelsior Palace in Trieste. Thus began the best part of our trip, which up until then had consisted of lovely but somewhat impersonal train rides through the Swiss Alps and a self-guided (i.e. lots of walking in the hot sun, waiting in line behind hordes of other tourists, overpaying for water taxis) tour of Venice. We had the time of our lives with Slovenia 4 Seasons, with our jovial tour guide Jernej regaling us with the history and culture of Slovenia and Italy as we were driven smoothly in an air-conditioned and very comfortable minivan through the pristine countryside and perfectly preserved storybook villages of Slovenia--just about half an hour from Trieste, but so orderly and clean compared to Italy--and unspoiled due to its status as a hidden gem and also the national character of cleanliness and pride in caring for their small but self-sufficient country. On the first day, we drove up the mountains to a hilltop playground where my daughters gleefully swung on monkey bars seemingly located at the top of this new world, then back downhill through rich green forests, and around picturesque stone and stucco clad villages, each with a proud little church that hosts every villager's wedding, funeral, and a book that contains hundreds of years of ancestry records. Our tots found the bumpy cobblestone streets of Groznjan, a beautifully-preserved and refreshingly uncrowded medieval Croatian village, to be as charming as they were fun and challenging for their little feet to traverse, an entertaining obstacle course on the way to a feast of sumptuous prawns and grilled fish. We ended the day in Lipica, the site of the Lipizzaner stud farm with gorgeous white horses as well as three roly-poly ponies that the girls delighted in meeting. The next day Jernej took us to the graceful capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana, where we visited the colorful and spotless and bustling city center and delicious Farmer's Market. The highlight for the girls, however, was a fantastical indoor playground--Mala Ulica--with a little kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, and cafe where they were served freshly squeezed orange juice, grilled cheese, and milk. It was hard to convince them to leave, but our next stop was the most spectacular yet--the dramatic Predjama Castle, built into the side of a cliff with a soaring network of caves extending overhead and through to the other side of the mountain. Jernej introduced us to his friends at the welcoming onsite restaurant, where we dined on savory venison goulash. Our experience with Slovenia 4 Seasons could not have been better or more personalized to our needs and interests--Jernej was willing to literally drive us anywhere we wanted to explore, and stop anywhere for photo ops--and allowed us to see and do so much more, in comfort and safety, than ever would have been possible on our own. We wish we could take them with us on all of our travels--having spent time with tour guides from all over the world, their service truly stands out for their attentiveness, flexibility, creativity, and warmth. We can't wait to go back and see more with Slovenia 4 Seasons!

“Fantastic Two Day Road Trip with Andrej and Our Family (kids age 9 and 12) - Highly Recommended!” Great tour! Thanks to Andrej for an epic two day road trip through the stunning valleys and vineyards of Slovenia and the nearby ports of Italy. So glad that I didn't penny pinch and attempt the self-guided rental car tour. Andrej is a true pro who quickly relaxed our family (kids 9 and 12) through a rare combination of mellow yet Phd level local knowledge, subtle yet perceptive tweaks to the tour based on the kids' needs and skilled/safe driving skills. We highly recommend Slovenia 4 Seasons for a family tour. Van B, USA

Trip of Lifetime - Slovenia, Croatia, Italy I highly recommend Slovenia 4 Seasons who planned and carried out a wonderful trip for two couples, traveling in Slovenia, Croatia, and Italy. Andrej, the owner, was always easy to contact and extremely responsive from initial inquiry to finalizing all the details. Andrej had many good suggestions set forth in his different package tours, yet was flexible to accommodate our travel interests. It is truly a customized, personalized travel experience. And, S4S goes to many other countries as well. We traveled in a very comfortable van with our own tour guide, Blaz, during the first 10 days of our trip. Blaz was very personable, knowledgable about all the sites we visited, and always concerned for our wishes and well-being. In each city we visited, Andrej and Blaz arranged for local guides to show us the highlights so that we saw things we surely would have missed otherwise. Each local guide provided an unbelievable amount of information about the people, customs, and history of each town. The hotels along the way were all well situated, well equipped, and with friendly staff. Most of the hotels were luxurious. Our trip typically included breakfast every morning at the hotels and we had several dinners along the way with Blaz. We started in Ljubljana, Slovenia and traveled over the space of ten days all the way to Dubrovnik at the southern end of Croatia. Each day was well planned to include a walking tour and plenty of time to be on your own. After Slovenia and Croatia, we went to Trieste, Italy where we again stayed in a wonderful hotel and enjoyed the local sites. Andrej then took us over to Venice, Italy for a fabulous day trip. We then ended our trip with a few days in Munich, staying at Louis Hotel. We found the city and the hotel to be absolutely fantastic. Andrej arranged our transfers to and from airports, which were all done as professionally as the entire trip. There are too many good things to say about Andrej and Balz along with the amazing places we saw and friendly people we met along the way to put everything into one review. For any who have concerns, English was spoken by nearly everybody we encountered, you felt quite safe everywhere and at all times of the day and night, and you were treated as a welcome guest everywhere. For a trip of a lifetime, you should book with them, right away.
